Sania Mirza inspired India to a 2-1 victory over Australia in the Hopman Cup tie at Perth and kept alive India’s hopes of reaching the final.

Sania set the ball rolling with a 6-2 2-6 6-4 win over Alicia Molik and though Peter Luczak beat Rohan Bopanna 7-6 6-3 to level the match, the Indians joined forces to win the mixed doubles 6-2 4-6 13-11 in the match tie break.

India must beat the Czech Republic and hope that Australia defeats the US, results which would leave all three teams on two wins out of three, with the group winner then decided on rubbers won.

Sania in good touch before US Open

With her impressive performances in the last few weeks, Sania Mirza has received yet another fillip by becoming the first Indian woman to be seeded in the season’s last Grand Slam.

Sania has been seeded 26th at the championship, which gets underway at the Flushing Meadows in New York from Monday. As a result of her seeding, she is likely to get an easy first round draw. Sania has made a solid start to summer hard courts in the run-up to the US Open and has to her credit five wins over top 20 players in the past few weeks.

As a diehard Sania Mirza fan, I hope to literally follow her around the world and post here about her exploits on the wta tour.
Sania Mirza has been on a roll since the last few weeks and has scalped many top 20 players during that period.
Here is hoping that her good run continues in the US open which is the last grand slam event of the year, starting in the second half of August.
